Chris “S.D. Kid” Martin has his plate full. But one thing he’s still hungry for is another victory.

Martin (16W-0W, 5KOs) of San Diego, CA will defend his California State Super  Bantamweight Championship against Ruben “Finito” Lopez (14-W-7L-1D, 13KOs) of Calexico, CA on April 8. He will be featured in the 10-round main event of the card, billed as Turf War: San Diego vs. Calexico at the Four Points by Sheraton in San Diego.

His last fight was against Eduardo Arcos on November 12, 2009 at the Four Points. Martin gave 21-year-old Arcos his only loss for a 15W-1L-12KOs record.

“I took some time off for the holidays,” Martin said. “I began training hard since the first week of January. I’m training the same as always, I do my road work in the morning before work. In the gym I’m picking up the sparring sessions, 6-10 rounds a day three days a week.”

Martin is approaching his upcoming fight the same way he has every over fight.

“Always with confidence in myself and my team,” he said.

The 23-year-old describes his fighting style as patient and precise.

“I prefer throwing my left hook to the body but I've hurt more opponents with my right upper-cut,” he said. “I’m known for keeping the pressure on my opponents and hopefully everyone else agrees, having an exciting fight.”

Martin has come up with a way of training hard so he can remain undefeated.

“My only strategy is in the gym and that’s to train hard and spar with different styles so come fight night I can adapt to anything that comes my way,” the San Diego native said.

The 5'7", 122-pounder has his work cut out for him, not necessarily with everything going on in the ring, but with everything going on out of it.

“My biggest obstacle has been keeping my family life, work and boxing balanced,” Martin said. “It’s a hard task and my weekly obstacle.”

He certainly has a busy year ahead of him. He and his fiancé are getting married on April 17th, just one week after the fight. They are also expecting their second child, a baby boy, on September 20th.

Martin is not sure what will be next for him, but he does know it’s something promising.

“My manager and promoter have promised a big 2010 and maybe another fight as soon as mid May,” he said.

No matter how hectic things may get, Martin still has the support of his family, friends and loved ones to keep him going.

“My fiancé and son are my inspiration, they're the reason I work so hard and it makes me happy knowing they are proud of me,” he said. “I also want to thank Jorge Marron, Don Chargin Productions and Bobby D Presents.”

The S.D. Kid isn’t sure which obstacle he’ll face next. But he does know he has one thing in store for those who attend his upcoming fight.

“Like always, I want to bring an electrifying performance that will have people talking,” he smiled.
